Abnormal Pap Smear and HPV Houston

There are several risk factors that may predispose you to have an abnormal Pap smears including smoking, multiple sexual partners, early age of sexual intercourse, sexually transmitted diseases and HPV infection.

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a virus that may cause genital warts, abnormal pap smears, and cancer of the cervix, vulva and anus. There are several types of HPV. While for most women infection with HPV is transient, if persistent, a colposcopy may be indicated to diagnose the lesion and guide a specific treatment. It is important to follow your recommended schedule.
